A Conversation In The Morning

“My husband needs,” she said,
“To go get his tea and take his pills.”
“Right,” he, turning, answered
Her.  Considering pains and ills
Their taking covered or forestalled
Wisely he complied; and passing by
Heard the miffled sound wives all
Make whenever husbands try,
Despite the overwhelming odds
To assert their independence.
Downstairs, separate a few yards,
He grumbled once in sovereign semblance
Drank now lukewarm tea, took the pills
And gave thanks she was there for all his ills.
