My Love Is No Red Rose

(with apologies to Robert Burns)

My love is no red or white petaled Rose
Tamely tucked beside another flower.
Nor some great blue giant far, far away
Harrowing darkness in a still corner
Of the wide universe. Its bright brave day
Bringing certainty as light truly does.

No, my love burns closer, brighter than those
Flamed dominions of ages here and come again,
Sinks deeper roots than fragile rose can do
In soil waiting for the kiss of eager dawn.
My love is truly King of Love and home
He’s died to lead me. Through all time he moves
Creator of roses, stars – all the rest;
The simple one who ever courts my “Yes!”
