Broken Open

I will see you before the gate of hell;
I will meet you there.
I will know you and you will know me
Though you did not know me here.
You will know me and knowing
All the strangeness will disappear.
I will see you as you despair
Then will I turn and say,
“Do not let him go this way.
Do not let him go”
And your eyes so heavy with understanding at last,
And your back bent with knowledge of woe to come
Weighted from hopelessness with the weight of worlds
Will bend and will weep, at last broken open.
