It Is Good Friday Well Along

It is Good Friday, well along
A dove moans its morning song
Slight breeze stirs rhododendron
Pale light defines the scene

It is Good Friday, well along
His punishment long ago begun
Beneath a thousand cuts the Son
Of Man endures it waiting

It is Good Friday well along
Here bare trees, straight, strong
Still as trees cut from stone
Endure and wait to serve again

Frame for nails to fasten flesh to hang
And blood to drop, to seep.  So strange.
Horrified we watch are saved.
It is Good Friday well along
