Beyond the Comprehension…

Here is a very interesting video about the development of a human being, a baby, from conception to birth.  It’s less than ten minutes long, a presentation by Dr. Alexander Tsiaras of  Yale University.

There are a couple of things about this that I found rather surprising.  In two places in the video, at about 1:24 and 7:50, give or take, Dr. Tsiaras uses a word not too often heard at TED talks, unless one is talking about how silly the very concept is.  The word?  Divinity.

The second thing is that as if he is defending his imprudence, Dr. Tisaras discusses the 60,000 miles of blood vessels we have within us and says that the attempt to understand how that can be is “beyond any comprehension of any existing mathematics” we have.  It struck me as an unusual statement from a scientist from whom we have come to expect statements more in the vein of “Well we know without a doubt….”

The comments section is full of folks whose blood curdles at the mere mention of that odious word.
